Door Edge Installation Instructions

1.Close door and check to see if there is at least 1/32" clearance
between sides of door and frame. Most doors will have enough
clearance to accommodate the door protector. If not, it may be
necessary to plane down parts of the door (usually just the lower edge)
or to put a shim under the hinges. If planing is necessary, this can be
done with a small hand plane while the door is in place or the door can
be removed for planing.

2. Hold angle on door edge and mark hole locations. (NOTE: Angles are
installed over the hinges - no cut outs are necessary.) See Figure 1.

3. Set angle aside and drill and countersink holes. Make sure holes are
drilled in straight to assure that screw heads will be flush with angle
when mounted.

4. Fasten angle with screws provided. Make sure to drive screws in
straight so screw heads are flush with angle. See Figure 3.

5. On the latch side, if the latch angle is of a length which covers the
strike latch, it will be necessary to drill or punch a 3/4" diameter hole in
the angle at the strike-latch location. Put the angle up against the
door, mark the center line of the angle. If the latch is other than a
round shape, it may be necessary to file it for proper latch clearance.
See Figure 4.

(Optional) Kickplate Installation Instructions

Install Door Edge Protector as Per Instructions

To determine kickplate size, deduct 5/8" from the door width if one angle
is used; deduct 1 1/4" if angles are to be installed on both edges.

1. Bevel two edges and top of kick plate with utility knife.

2. Apply adhesive to back of kickplate (smooth side) and to door with
brush or paint roller. Let adhesive dry to approximately 1/2 hour or until
dry to the touch (if kickplate comes with self-adhesive backing simply
peel off the liner and put kickplate in place).

3. Butt edge of kickplate to the door edge protector. See Figure 5.

4. Smooth out the kickplate and press firmly in place, especially on top
and sides. If kickplate needs to be removed and re-positioned, an
additional coat of adhesive may be necessary.

5A. If no door edge protector is to be used on latch edge, trim kickplate
flush on latch edge using a utility knife. Trim carefully and bevel edge
smooth and flush using a utility knife edge as a scraper. See Figure 6.

5B. If door edge protectors are used on both hinge and latch edges, fit
kickplate so it lies against the edge of both angles. The kickplate should
be fitted before gluing. If a kickplate is already installed on the door, it
can be cut back with a straight edge and a utility knife. See Figure 7.

6. Clean up any excess adhesive with clean white cloth.
